Private pad versus permitted landing

Two things get described as 'helipad access' and they are not equivalent. A licensed private pad on the estate grounds permits scheduled landings on request. A permitted landing zone — a lawn, terrace or adjacent field cleared case by case — depends on the operator, wind conditions and, in much of Europe, a municipal permission filed days in advance.

Every listing on this page states which of the two it holds when the supplier discloses it. Where it is unclear, the desk confirms before contract.

Nice to the Riviera hinterland runs 7–12 minutes against 60–90 by road in August. St Barts is served by fixed-wing from St Maarten rather than helicopter for most arrivals, with helicopter transfer priced at a premium over the scheduled hop. Alpine landings above 1,800m are weather-bound and frequently rescheduled — build a road contingency into festive arrivals.

Passenger and baggage limits for the specific airframe, night-landing permission, insurance and operator approval at the pad, and whether ground handling at the estate is included or invoiced by the operator.
