Staffed Villas with a Private Chef

Every house on this page arrives with a kitchen brigade of some description. What separates them is whether the chef is included in the nightly rate, engaged daily, or invoiced per cover — and that difference is usually worth more than the headline price.

What a private chef actually includes

In the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, chef service is most often bundled: breakfast and one further meal daily, with provisioning billed at cost plus a 10–20% handling margin. In the Mediterranean, the more common structure is a chef engaged separately at a day rate, with the villa supplying only the kitchen and a housekeeper.

Ask three questions before you compare rates: is the chef resident or arriving daily, are provisions inside or outside the quoted figure, and how many covers is the day rate written for. A house that looks $1,200 a night cheaper often loses that margin on the first grocery invoice.

Typical culinary staffing premiums

Across the estates we track, a resident chef adds roughly 12–22% to the nightly rate in the Caribbean festive window, 8–15% in the Mediterranean high season, and rather less in Bali and Thailand where staffing costs are structurally lower and chef service is close to standard.

Dietary programmes — full plant-based, kosher, medically supervised — sit outside standard service everywhere and are quoted per stay.

Booking notes

Chef availability, not villa availability, is the binding constraint over Christmas and New Year in St Barts and Punta Mita. Confirm the named chef, not simply the service line, when your dates fall inside a festive minimum.

Frequently asked

Is a private chef included in the villa rate?
It depends on the region. Caribbean and Indian Ocean estates usually bundle a resident chef with breakfast and one further meal daily; Mediterranean villas more often quote the chef separately at a day rate. Food and provisioning are almost always billed at cost on top.
How much does a private chef cost at a luxury villa?
As a bundled service, a resident chef typically adds 8–22% to the nightly rate depending on the season and destination. Engaged separately, day rates commonly run from roughly $350 in Southeast Asia to $1,200 or more in the Caribbean festive window, exclusive of provisioning.
Can the chef cater dietary requirements and events?
Yes. Plant-based, kosher, allergen-controlled and medically supervised programmes are all arranged, but they are quoted per stay rather than inside standard service. Give the desk the brief at enquiry so the chef is matched, not simply assigned.
How far in advance should I book a chef-staffed villa?
For Caribbean festive dates and Mediterranean and alpine peaks, book as early as your dates are fixed. Outside those windows, availability is usually less pressured; check live partner availability.
