Where to stay in Búzios.

A peninsula of small bays two and a half hours east of Rio, where the stays are pousadas and private rentals rather than big resorts. Which bay you choose sets the temperature of the whole week.

We don't hold our own houses in South America yet. Everything listed here is a real hotel, lodge or rental from our booking partners, with live prices for your dates — booked on their site, with our planning notes alongside.

Planning notes

Choose the bay

Ferradura is calm, deep and the family choice. Geribá has surf and the beach clubs. João Fernandes is sheltered and good for swimming and snorkelling. Ossos and the town itself put you a walk from Rua das Pedras and dinner.

Pousadas and rentals

Inventory here is small and personal — fifteen-room pousadas, hillside houses with pools. Book early for New Year and Carnival, when minimum stays of five to seven nights are standard.

Getting there

Drive or transfer from Rio's Galeão in around two and a half hours, longer on a Friday. A car helps if you are staying outside town; otherwise taxis and short buggy hops cover it.

The best months to go

December to March
Peak Brazilian summer. Hot, busy and expensive, with the highest prices around New Year and Carnival.
April, May, October, November
The sweet spot: warm water, thinner crowds, far better rates.
June to September
Cooler and quieter. Pleasant for walking the bays, less certain for swimming.

Questions we're asked about Búzios

Can I book a private villa in Búzios through you?
You can search real rental houses and pousadas here with our booking partners and book on their site. They are not part of our own collection — we hold no Brazilian houses.
Is Búzios a day trip from Rio?
It works, but it is five hours of driving for a few hours of beach. Three nights is the shortest stay that makes sense.
