The season is longer than the crowd thinks
The Mediterranean's reputation is built on six weeks it does not especially enjoy.
The season the people who own villas here actually use runs from the first week of May to the middle of October. The sea is comfortable for most swimmers from June and usually stays warm into October, varying by basin and year. September brings fewer crowds than July. And the same villa can be priced very differently in a peak fortnight and a shoulder fortnight; compare live partner rates.

Choosing between them
The Maldives is the most single-minded holiday in luxury travel: one island, one resort, water in every direction, and nothing to do that you have not chosen. It suits honeymoons, families who want the sea, and divers, and every resort occupies its own island.
The Seychelles offer the opposite — granite islands with mountains, forests and beaches you can walk between, plus several private-island estates. Mauritius is a larger island with golf, food and culture alongside its beach estates; compare live partner rates for your dates.
The booking calendar
The festive fortnight in the Maldives is the busiest week of the year in the Maldives, and it is committed as early as your dates are fixed often with longer minimum stays. January to April books as early as your dates are fixed. From May to November the same villas are often available at shorter notice at rates that often differ from the festive period, if you accept an afternoon squall.
