The three resorts, and what each one is for
The French Alps are not one market. Courchevel 1850 is the deepest ultra-prime chalet market in Europe and prices like it; Val d'Isère is the skiers' luxury resort with a shorter, sharper season and a walkable village; Chamonix is a working alpine town with the widest rate range of the three and the fastest transfer from Geneva.
Pick the resort on how the week is meant to run — piste-side service, village life, or high-mountain access — and only then compare rates.
Courchevel 1850, Savoie
The largest concentration of staffed ultra-prime chalets in the Alps, on the Three Valleys lift system. Chef, host, housekeeping and a driver are standard inside the rate, festive weeks are rebooked twelve to eighteen months out, and the address inside 1850 matters more than the square metres.

High, snow-sure and built for people who ski every day. Espace Killy skiing off Solaise and Bellevarde, a compact village you can walk at night, and chalet stock that runs from six-bedroom village houses to a small band of piste-side ultra-prime builds.
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Haute-Savoie
A year-round town rather than a purpose-built resort, an hour and a quarter from Geneva, with the Aiguille du Midi and the Grands Montets on the doorstep. The best value of the three for a large staffed chalet, and the only one that works as well in August as in February.

Peak weeks, minimums and when to book
Across all three resorts the season is carried by three blocks: Christmas, New Year and the overlapping French and British February half-terms. They run Saturday to Saturday on a seven-night minimum and price at two to three times the same chalet in mid-January.
The rebooking cycle differs by resort. Courchevel's festive stock is largely committed twelve to eighteen months out; Val d'Isère runs eight to twelve; Chamonix is the most open market of the three, with real availability four to six months ahead outside the festive fortnight.
- Decide the resort on how you want to ski before comparing rates.
- Ask whether the quoted rate is catered, self-catered or staffed with a chef.
- Confirm whether ski-in ski-out means piste access or a chalet driver.
- Price the Geneva transfer at the same time as the chalet — three hours each way changes the week.
- For festive weeks, join the release list for named chalets rather than searching in autumn.
Staffing and what sits outside the rate
A staffed French chalet rate normally carries a chef with breakfast, afternoon tea and a five-course dinner on six days, a host, daily housekeeping and a driver with vehicle inside resort. Lift passes, ski hire, instructors, childcare, airport transfers and premium wine sit outside it almost everywhere.
