What a Chamonix chalet costs
The Chamonix valley's skiing is divided into separate ski areas, among them Brévent–Flégère, Grands Montets, Les Houches / Saint-Gervais and Balme–Vallorcine, according to the tourist office. Which hamlet you choose therefore decides which lifts are closest, so confirm this for each chalet.

Chamonix hamlets: choosing your address in the valley
The valley has several bases. The hamlet decides which lift is nearest; confirm each chalet's walk or transfer to the lift and to dinner rather than relying on the village name.
Les Praz
The lower station of the Flégère gondola is here (about 1,067 m). The tourist office describes the Flégère area as south-facing, looking towards the Mont-Blanc range.
Argentière
At about 1,250 m, the highest of the four villages listed here, and the village at the foot of the Grands Montets ski area. See our Argentière guide for the lift rebuild after the 2018 fire.
Chamonix Sud and the town centre
The valley's main town, at about 1,035 m. The Aiguille du Midi and Brévent cable cars are among the lifts listed for the town; check each chalet's walk to the lift and to the centre.
Les Houches
At the western end of the valley, with the village centre at about 1,000 m and the Prarion at 1,850 m. The tourist office lists Les Houches as a family-oriented village.
