Planning notes
Medina or Palmeraie
A medina riad puts you inside the old city — the point of Marrakech — but the last stretch is on foot through lanes no car reaches, with a porter for luggage. The Palmeraie, 20 minutes out, gives gardens, tennis and a pool you can swim lengths in, at the cost of a drive to dinner.
Staffing and food
Riads come staffed as standard: a house manager, housekeeping and a cook who will do breakfast daily and dinner on request, with market shopping at cost. It's one of the reasons a riad week undercuts an equivalent European villa so comfortably.
When to go
March to May and September to November are the two good windows — warm days, cool evenings, the Atlas still snow-capped in spring. July and August are genuinely hot, often above 40°C, and rates fall accordingly. Ramadan changes restaurant hours and the city's rhythm; check the dates before booking.

- Should I stay in the medina or the Palmeraie?
- The medina for the old city, the souks and walking everywhere — knowing the final approach is on foot. The Palmeraie for gardens, a full-size pool and quiet, with a 20-minute drive into town.
- Are riads in Marrakech staffed?
- Yes, as standard — a house manager, housekeeping and a cook for breakfast and dinner on request, with market shopping billed at cost.
- When is the best time to visit Marrakech?
- March to May and September to November. July and August regularly exceed 40°C, and winter nights are cold enough that you'll want a fireplace.
- Can a car reach a medina riad?
- Usually not to the door. Cars stop at the nearest square and the house sends a porter for the final few minutes on foot through the lanes.
