What a Méribel chalet costs
Méribel sits in the middle of the Three Valleys, which means you can ski to Courchevel and Val Thorens from the door and come home without taking a car. It is also the birthplace of the British catered chalet, so the staffed market is deeper and more competitive here than anywhere else in the Tarentaise — and rates run below Courchevel 1850 for the same service.

Méribel villages: altitude against atmosphere
Méribel runs down a single valley across roughly seven hundred metres of altitude. The higher you take the chalet the better the ski access and the thinner the village; the lower you go the more Savoyard it feels.
Méribel Centre and Belvédère
The resort proper at 1,450 metres, with the Chaudanne lift hub, the restaurants and the largest concentration of prime staffed chalets. Belvédère above it is the prestige address: ski-in ski-out with the valley below.
Méribel-Mottaret
At 1,750 metres, the highest and most snow-sure base and the fastest access to Val Thorens. Function over charm; the pick for groups who ski hard every day.
Méribel Village
A small hamlet at 1,400 metres with its own chairlift into the domain. Quiet, wooded and family-friendly, with better value per bedroom than the centre.
Les Allues and Le Raffort
The original Savoyard villages down the valley at 1,100 metres, linked by gondola. Old stone farmhouses, real village life and the lowest rates in the commune.

Catered or staffed, and when to book
Catered in Méribel conventionally means breakfast, afternoon tea and a four-course dinner on six of seven days, with a staff night off — the chef and hosts live in. Staffed means a private chef cooking to your menu, a house manager and daily housekeeping, quoted without a fixed meal plan. The second costs roughly twenty to forty per cent more for the same house.
Festive weeks are taken eight to twelve months out and half-term six to nine. Mid-January, early December and the last two weeks of the season are the openings: five-night midweek stays are widely accepted and rates fall by a third or more.
- Confirm ski-in ski-out literally — many centre chalets are a two-minute walk, not a doorstep.
- Ask which meals the catered rate covers and which night the staff are off.
- Check the Geneva transfer time in Saturday changeover traffic, not on paper.
- Book instructors for half-term at the same time as the chalet.
- Ask whether lift passes can be delivered to the chalet on arrival.
