What a Megève chalet costs
Megève was built as a resort in the 1920s by the Rothschilds, and it has stayed a village rather than a lift station: cobbles, horse-drawn sleighs, a Michelin-starred dinner scene and chalets that look like farms because most of them were. The altitude is modest, so the skiing is not the reason people take a house here — the address and the village are.

Megève quarters: where to take the house
Megève's three ski areas are separate and none of them is attached to the village centre, so the quarter you choose is a decision about mornings: walk to the boulangerie, or click in at the door.
Village centre
Cobbled streets, the church square, the restaurants and the shopping. Best for stays where dinner and the village matter more than first lifts; a shuttle or a driver handles the slopes.
Mont d'Arbois
The historic Rothschild slope and the prime address. Large ski-in ski-out chalets on wide sunny plots, five minutes by car above the centre, and the top of the rate range.
Rochebrune
Across the valley from Mont d'Arbois, with the cable car walkable from the centre's edge. Slightly better value and the shortest combination of skiing and village life.
Le Jaillet and Combloux side
North-facing, quieter, with Mont Blanc straight ahead. Newer chalets, bigger gardens and the best value of the four for the same specification.

Snow, service and booking windows
Megève tops out around 2,350 metres and the village sits at 1,113, so early December and April can be thin at village level. Snowmaking on the main returns is extensive, and the resort trades cover for convenience: Geneva is an hour and five minutes, the shortest transfer of any prime French resort.
Service is hotel-influenced here more than catered-chalet British: most prime houses come with a chef, a butler or house manager, daily housekeeping and a driver, and the rate is quoted staffed rather than catered.
- Confirm whether a driver is included; nothing in Megève except the centre is walkable to a lift.
