What Bangkok costs
Bangkok is the strongest value proposition in luxury travel: river hotels that rank among the best in the world at rates a European city would charge for a business room, spa treatments at a fifth of US prices, and a service culture that other countries study. Private residences and serviced apartments add space for families; the river hotels remain the reason most people come.
Bands are indicative per night.
| Season | River or city suite | 2–3 bedroom residence | Penthouse / private villa |

Which side of the city
The Chao Phraya riverside
The grand hotels, the boats, the temples across the water and the best sunsets. Slower and cooler than the centre, with a ferry instead of a taxi.
Sukhumvit (Thong Lo, Phrom Phong)
Restaurants, bars and the best residences for a longer stay, with the Skytrain avoiding the traffic entirely.
Silom and Sathorn
Business Bangkok: rooftop bars, embassies and fast access to both the river and the airport road.
The old town, Rattanakosin
The palace, Wat Pho and the flower market on foot. A handful of small hotels, no nightlife, extraordinary early mornings.
- Use the Skytrain, metro and river boats; Bangkok traffic can turn three kilometres into an hour.
- November to February is the only season that is reliably cool and dry — book those months first.
- April's Songkran is a national water festival: joyful, chaotic and not a quiet week.
- Tailoring, dentistry and spa work are genuinely world-class here and priced a fraction of Western rates.
- Three nights suits most itineraries before continuing to Phuket, Koh Samui or Chiang Mai.
The best time to visit Bangkok
November to February is the cool dry season: high twenties, low humidity, blue skies. It is also the peak, and December and January carry the year's highest rates.
March to May is genuinely hot — April tops 35C daily — and June to October is the green season, when the rain typically arrives as a heavy late-afternoon hour rather than an all-day event. Those wet months are the value play, and the city is at its greenest.
Frequently asked questions
- When is the best time to visit Bangkok?
- November to February, the cool dry season: comfortable temperatures, low humidity and clear skies. March to May is very hot and June to October is the rainy green season, which brings the lowest rates.
- How much does a luxury stay in Bangkok cost?
- Indicatively USD 300 to 700 per night for a suite in the green season and USD 550 to 1,300 in December and January. Two- to three-bedroom residences run USD 500 to 2,000 depending on the month.
- Where is the best area to stay in Bangkok?
- The Chao Phraya riverside for the grand hotels and temple views, Sukhumvit for restaurants and longer stays, Silom and Sathorn for business and rooftops, and the old town for early-morning sightseeing on foot.
- How many days should I spend in Bangkok?
- Three nights covers the palace, the river, the markets and the food properly. Most travellers then continue to Phuket, Koh Samui or Chiang Mai.
- Is Bangkok good value for luxury travel?
- It is arguably the best value in the world at the top of the market: internationally ranked hotels, service and spas at a fraction of European or US rates, with food that costs almost nothing at street level.
