The short answer

September is the quiet reward. Bali stays dry into the month but the August crowds have gone and villa rates fall by a third; Japan's second half cools into clear, comfortable weather with almost no visitors.

The risks are real and worth naming: September is the peak of typhoon activity for Japan and the Philippines, and Thailand's wettest month. Flexible travel days matter more than in any other month.

Where to be, and what to book

  • Hokkaido

  • Bali rates fall sharply after the first week of September.
  • September is Japan's highest typhoon month — take flexible fares.
  • Japanese rates stay low until the final week, then climb towards October.
  • Thailand and the Philippines are best left for the dry months.

Frequently asked questions

Is September a good time to visit Asia?
For Bali, yes — dry, quiet and much cheaper than August. Japan's second half is excellent value, with typhoon risk the main caveat.
Is Bali dry in September?
Yes. September sits at the end of the dry season with reliable sunshine and far fewer visitors than July or August.
Is September typhoon season in Asia?
It is the peak month for typhoons in Japan and the Philippines. Most trips are unaffected, but flexible travel days are wise.
