The short answer
April belongs to Japan. Blossom peaks in the first ten days in Tokyo and Kyoto, the weather is the most reliable of the spring, and rates sit at their annual ceiling with inventory committed nearly a year ahead.
Thailand is at its hottest — often 35°C and humid — and Songkran shuts parts of the cities for several days in mid-month. Bali, meanwhile, opens its dry season: sunny, warm and not yet at July prices.
The Asia cluster:
April across the region
| Destination | Conditions | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Japan | Blossom peak, mild and dry; busiest weeks of the year | Superb but book far ahead |
| Thailand | Hottest month; Songkran mid-month | Plan around it |
| Bali | Dry season opens | Excellent value |
| Maldives | End of dry season, still calm | Very good |
| Philippines | Hot and dry, peak beach season | Excellent |
