Published transfer times are optimistic

A published drive duration is not a promise for your arrival day. Ask for a current estimate for the exact route and check official road notices before travel.

Do not apply a fixed traffic multiplier. Confirm the road surface, vehicle requirements, luggage capacity and final approach with the accommodation and transfer operator.

For the villas whose isolation is the point — Balearic north coast, Sardinian headlands, most of the Caribbean's better villas, the Maldivian atolls entirely — the water or air transfer is not an indulgence bolted onto the week. It is the only sensible way in, and it is priced per movement rather than per stay.

That distinction matters more than the headline figure. A helicopter transfer quoted as a one-off looks reasonable; the same figure multiplied by a group that wants dinner on the mainland twice does not. Which airport, actually

Compare each airport using the whole itinerary: flight schedule, onward route, waiting time and total transfer cost. A lower airfare does not establish the cheapest or shortest door-to-door arrival.

The question we would ask an agency, in these words: what is the realistic door-to-door time from each airport you serve, on a Saturday in high season, including the last kilometre. A villa that cannot answer that has not thought about its guests arriving, which tells you something about the rest of it.
