- Check current advice first. UK advice (checked 3 October 2026) describes crime as generally non-violent but reports break-ins, robberies and bag snatching, including on beaches, trails and when walking at night. Petty theft happens — do not leave valuables in cars at beach car parks or in unlocked rooms — and your government's current advisory is worth a routine check.
- Which Seychelles beaches are dangerous to swim?
- Anse Intendance and Grand Anse (Mahé) and Grand Anse (La Digue) are the notorious ones — beautiful, and regularly dangerous with currents and shore break, especially May to October. Anse Lazio and Anse Source d'Argent are the calm classics. Ask your hotel daily; conditions change with the season.
- Is the Seychelles in the cyclone belt?
- No — the inner islands sit outside the cyclone zone, which is one of the destination's quiet advantages. Trade-wind seasons change the sea state on different coasts; check current weather alerts, which is why the swimmable beaches rotate through the year.
- Is the Seychelles safe for solo travellers?
- Generally, yes. The islands are small, English and French speaking, and easy to navigate. Solo travellers should take the standard care with isolated beaches and unlit paths at night, but the environment is relaxed and friendly.
