Lech is small, prosperous and largely owned by families who have run the same hotels for generations. Crime against visitors is very rare and the village is comfortable to walk at any hour, with a free ski bus running between Lech, Oberlech and Zürs.
The Arlberg gets a great deal of snow, which is the attraction and the hazard. Avalanche risk in the surrounding terrain is serious, and the area's own guides are among the best in the Alps — use them rather than a map and an app. Check the Vorarlberg avalanche bulletin every morning.
Access can close. Heavy snowfall occasionally shuts the road from Warth or the Flexen Pass for hours; build slack into transfer timing to Zurich or Innsbruck in midwinter rather than booking the last flight of the day.
