Spain is a low-crime country and Ibiza is no exception. Most of the island — the north around Santa Gertrudis and San Juan, the western coves, the countryside where the villas are — is rural, quiet and entirely unthreatening.
The problems cluster around the nightlife. Drink spiking, aggressive street sellers, and pickpocketing outside clubs at closing time all happen in San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa. Never accept a drink you did not see poured, do not buy anything from a street dealer, and arrange transport home before you go out rather than negotiating at four in the morning.
Away from the clubs, the practical risks are sun and roads. Summer heat is serious for anyone walking the coves at midday, and the island's narrow lanes see regular scooter accidents. Ibiza has good hospitals in Ibiza Town; a European health card or travel insurance covers the rest.
