The Cap is a residential peninsula of walled properties, private lanes and a permanent security culture that comes with the postcodes. Violent crime is close to non-existent, and walking the coastal path or the lanes at night is unremarkable.
What does happen, as everywhere on this coast in summer, is theft of opportunity: bags from café chairs in Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, phones from open car seats, watches noticed in the wrong place. Take the standard Riviera habits — nothing visible in a parked car, no valuables on a beach towel, and discretion with jewellery in crowded old towns.
The sea deserves respect. The rocky coast has strong currents on windy days and the Sentier du Littoral path is genuinely slippery when wet. In August, the bigger risk is traffic: the roads onto the Cap are narrow, busy and unforgiving of speed.
