Ostuni sits white on a hill six kilometres inland, with an olive plain running down to the Adriatic and the trulli country of the Valle d'Itria behind it. How the week runs
Puglia is a driving holiday from a fixed base: market in the morning, a beach club after lunch, an inland town for dinner. August is hot and busy on the coast but calm inland; May, June and late September give the same food and empty beaches.
Staffing is often a cook for some evenings, plus daily housekeeping and a gardener; larger masserie offer full service where the house provides it. Book beach clubs and the better restaurants before you arrive in August.
