What Hakuba costs
Hakuba offers bigger vertical and steeper terrain than many Hokkaido resorts, with views up the Northern Alps. We have no verified comparison of chalet rates against Niseko, so compare live partner rates. Every village in the valley has its own onsen.

Which village
Wadano and Happo
Ski-in access to the Olympic downhill mountain, the best chalet stock and walking distance to the Happo lifts.
Echoland
Restaurants and bars, a short shuttle from the lifts, and the liveliest evenings in the valley.
Hakuba Goryu and Iimori
Quieter, family terrain, good value and an easy ski connection to Hakuba 47.
Tsugaike and Cortina
North end of the valley, the deepest snow in a storm cycle and tree skiing the others do not have.
- February is the sweet spot: deep base and quieter resorts than January.
- Book a chalet with an onsen or private bath — the valley's water is the reason to come back.
- Take the Shinkansen to Nagano then an express bus transfer; hiring a car is unnecessary with shuttles.
- The Hakuba Valley pass covers ten resorts on one ticket — worth it from three days.
- Non-skiers do well here: snowshoeing, Matsumoto castle and the snow monkeys at Jigokudani are a day out.
