What a villa in Corsica costs
Corsica is the least developed of the large Mediterranean islands, and its rental market reflects that: granite villas above the water in the south, farmhouse conversions inland, and very little of any scale. Prices are set almost entirely by proximity to a swimmable bay.

Which coast to take
Porto-Vecchio and the southern beaches
Palombaggia, Santa Giulia and Rondinara: the island's best swimming, its best villas and its busiest August. Figari airport is twenty-five minutes away.
Bonifacio and the far south
Limestone cliffs, a walled town above the harbour and boats to the Lavezzi islands. Dramatic rather than sandy.
Calvi, Balagne and the north-west
Citadel town, long bay, mountain villages ten minutes inland. Easier flights from Paris and a shorter season.
Cap Corse and Saint-Florent
The wild northern finger: coastal hamlets, Patrimonio wine and almost no crowds even in August.

Practicalities on the island
Distances take longer than a map suggests: the Bastia–Porto-Vecchio drive is two and a half hours, and mountain roads halve your average speed. Take a car per four guests, and plan the week around one base rather than touring.
August is booked in January by French families; June and late September are the island at its best — warm sea, open restaurants, no queues at Palombaggia.
- Book flights before the house: Figari and Calvi have limited capacity in August.
- Confirm the drive to the nearest swimmable beach in minutes, not kilometres.
- Ask whether the villa has air conditioning; many older granite houses do not.
- Reserve restaurants in Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio before arrival in August.
- A boat day from Bonifacio to the Lavezzi islands is worth planning around.
