Which coast to take
Porto-Vecchio and the southern beaches
Palombaggia, Santa Giulia and Rondinara are the sandy beaches near Porto-Vecchio. Figari is the nearest airport.

The west coast: Gulf of Porto and Scandola
UNESCO inscribed the Gulf of Porto, the Calanche of Piana, the Gulf of Girolata and the Scandola Reserve in 1983. Scandola, part of Corsica's Regional Natural Park, is a peninsula of red porphyry rock with sea caves and islets, home to cormorants and sea eagles — best planned as a day out rather than a villa base.

Practicalities on the island
Mountain roads are slow, so allow more time than the distance suggests and consider one base rather than touring.
Ferries arrive at Bastia, L'Île-Rousse, Ajaccio, Porto-Vecchio and Propriano, from Marseille, Nice and Toulon in France and Genoa, Livorno, Piombino and Savona in Italy.
