How to use the calendar

  • Never plan both coasts in one wet month

The Andaman (Phuket, Krabi) is wet May to October; the Gulf (Samui, Phangan) is wet October to December. Pick whichever is dry and stay there.

  • Skip the north in March and April

Agricultural burning puts Chiang Mai among the world's worst air-quality readings for weeks. A breathwork retreat in that air is a bad joke.

  • May, June and September are the value windows

Rain comes in short afternoon bursts, not all day. Staffed houses fall to their lowest bands and practitioners have availability.

  • Christmas needs a year

The best houses for the last two weeks of December are taken nine to twelve months out, often by returning guests.

Keep planning

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month for a wellness retreat in Thailand?
February. The mainland and the Andaman coast are dry and cool by local standards, the northern haze has not started, and Koh Samui's own dry window has opened — the one month when every region works at once.
When is the cheapest time for a Thailand retreat?
May, June and September. Rain arrives as short afternoon bursts rather than all-day weather, staffed houses fall to their lowest bands and teachers and therapists have real availability.
Why is Koh Samui's season different?
Samui sits on the Gulf side and takes the northeast monsoon, so its wet months are roughly October to December while the Andaman coast is dry. Its best stretch runs February to September.
Should I avoid Chiang Mai in March?
Yes, for anything wellness-related. Agricultural burning from late February into April pushes air quality to among the worst readings in the world. Go coastal in those weeks.
How far ahead should I book a Thailand wellness villa?
Four to six months for most of the year, and nine to twelve months for Christmas and New Year, when the best staffed houses are taken by returning guests before they are ever advertised.
