What a catered chalet in Argentière costs
Argentière is up the valley from Chamonix, and it trades town life for the Grands Montets — the valley's high, steep ski area, and the reason strong skiers take a villa here rather than in Chamonix itself. The ski area itself is changing: the operator, Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, says the Grands Montets area — severely affected by a 2018 fire — is under reconstruction, with new lifts by Doppelmayr and an upper station designed by architect Renzo Piano inspired by pyrite crystals, and reopening in phases: the Argentière–Lognan gondola and new base facilities are scheduled for December 2026, while the upper lift restoring summit access is planned for winter 2027/28. A chalet booked for that date should confirm with the operator which lifts and stations are open before travelling.

Where to take a villa in the village
Argentière is small enough to walk end to end, but where a chalet sits changes the week considerably — the lift queue, the road noise and the sun all move with it.
Above the village, towards the Grands Montets
The shortest walk to the Grands Montets base and the new Lognan gondola. Check the exact route in ski boots for each listing.
The village centre and Rue Charlet Straton
Close to shops and the Argentière station on the Mont-Blanc Express line. Suits a mixed group that does not want to drive.
Les Chosalets and the Pècles
Hamlets just outside the centre; confirm the distance to the lift and bus stop for each listing.
Le Tour and Montroc
Further up the valley, at the Balme – Vallorcine ski area, which the Chamonix tourist office forecasts to open on 12 December 2026, snow permitting (chamonix.com live-info page; confirm before booking).

- The Grands Montets lift system is being rebuilt after the 2018 fire, with a first phase (Argentière–Lognan) scheduled for December 2026 and summit access planned for winter 2027/28; check the operator's live status before travelling.
- Peak weeks are Saturday to Saturday and are placed early.
Argentière in summer
Out of season the village is a base for climbing and trail walking rather than a ski resort. Check which lifts run in summer before planning a lift-served day; the valley's summer lift season is set each year by the operators.
