Amalfi Coast wellness calendar: spa, bathing and retreats month by month

Cliff gardens, lemon groves and long lunches above the water — a retreat coast if you pick the month carefully. The month you choose decides most of the stay here — whether the spas are open at all, whether a therapist is bookable tomorrow or in three weeks, and what a villa costs. This is the twelve-month view, with a built-in itinerary builder and live partner rates below.

The twelve months in Amalfi Coast

Retreat programmes, spa and bathing conditions, therapist availability and villa rate character for each month of the year.

MonthRetreats & programmesSpa & bathingTherapist availabilityVilla rates
JanuaryOut of season. Most hotels and their spas are closed; Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga is limited to whatever a private teacher will travel for.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Sea bathing is for the hardy only; heated pools are mostly drained.Very limited — plan a rest week, not a treatment week.Lowest of the year; the least open around you.
FebruaryStill closed. The coast is beautiful, empty and largely shuttered; a good month for walking and reading, a poor one for programmes.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Almost nothing open.Minimal. A visiting therapist at the house is the realistic option.Lowest.
MarchThe first reopenings. Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga restarts at the end of the month as the hotels come back; the coastal paths are at their greenest.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Pools begin heating in the last weeks of March.Improving but partial. Confirm what is open before fixing dates.Low.
AprilSeason opens. Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga moves outside; walking, sea air and garden practice with nobody around.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Heated pools are open; the sea is still cold.Good availability; book 2–4 days ahead. Off-peak treatment pricing.Low–moderate.
MayOne of the two best months. Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga in warm, clear weather before the summer crowds — the connoisseur's choice.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Sea swimming becomes pleasant late in the month.Very good; 3–5 days ahead is enough, including for visiting practitioners.Moderate — excellent value for the weather.
JuneFull season. Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga runs daily; boats, gardens and long light. Busy but not yet at capacity.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Sea at its most inviting without August heat.Filling; book a week ahead for the best therapists.Moderate–high.
JulyPeak. The coast is full, restaurants need booking and Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga runs early in the day to beat the heat.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Crowded midday; dawn and evening swims are the answer.Heavy demand; 2 weeks ahead for the practitioners you want.High — villas near capacity.
AugustThe busiest weeks of the year, and the hottest. Practice moves to dawn; the middle of the day belongs to shade and water.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. At its most crowded — private boat or house pool is the calm option.Booked out. Reserve 3 weeks ahead or accept what's left.Peak — the most expensive month.
SeptemberThe other best month. Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga in warm water and thinning crowds — a serious retreat week with the season still fully running.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. The sea is at its warmest of the year and the beaches empty through the month.Availability returns; 4–5 days ahead is comfortable.Moderate–high, falling through the month.
OctoberA calm, generous month. Cliff-path walking, sea swimming and garden-terrace yoga continues in soft light; hotels begin to close in the last week or two.Amalfi bathing is the sea below the cliffs, terraced villa pools, and the thermal springs on nearby Ischia for those who want real mineral water. Sea still swimmable early in the month; heated pools open until closing.Good and inexpensive; walking in works midweek.Low–moderate.
NovemberClosing. Sea, gardens and the Ischia thermal option

The Amalfi Coast itself is not thermal — its wellness is sea, gardens and altitude above the water. The volcanic thermal springs of the Bay of Naples are on Ischia, reachable by ferry, and are the region's genuine mineral-bathing tradition.

  • Ischia thermal parks

Ischia's volcanic thermal gardens run large complexes of hot mineral pools, most open roughly April to October. A ferry day trip from the coast, or a two-night detour.

  • Villa pools and the sea

Most cliff villas have terraced pools; the sea below is warmest in late August and September and calmest early in the day.

  • Ravello for quiet

Ravello sits high above the coast road and stays considerably calmer than Positano and Amalfi in the peak months — the better base for a retreat week.

Amalfi Coast wellness calendar: questions

When is the best month for a wellness retreat in Amalfi Coast?
May and September. Those months combine open facilities, settled weather and rates below the peak weeks, which is the combination a retreat week actually needs.
Does Amalfi Coast have thermal springs or hot baths?
The Amalfi Coast itself is not thermal — its wellness is sea, gardens and altitude above the water. The volcanic thermal springs of the Bay of Naples are on Ischia, reachable by ferry, and are the region's genuine mineral-bathing tradition.
Which months are closed or quiet in Amalfi Coast?
Broadly November to March. In those weeks many hotels, spas and restaurants shut for the inter-season, so confirm what is open before fixing dates — the villa may be available when the village around it is not.
How far ahead should I book treatments in Amalfi Coast?
In the quiet months, a few days is enough. In the shoulder months, book 3–7 days ahead. In the peak weeks — the February holidays and Christmas in the Alps, July and August on the coast — the practitioners worth having are booked two to three weeks out.
What does a villa in Amalfi Coast cost?
Rates move with the month far more than most people expect, so we do not publish an average. Every villa on this page is priced live by the partner holding your dates — set your dates in the panel below and you will see the real figure rather than an estimate.
