What a Zermatt chalet costs by week
Zermatt is car-free: you leave the car in Täsch and arrive by train or electric taxi. That single fact shapes the rental market — the best chalets are the ones a short walk or a private shuttle from a lift, not the ones with the largest garage.

Which quarter of the village
Winkelmatten
Quiet, sunny and above the village, with ski-in access to the Furi runs and the best Matterhorn views. The classic chalet address.
Bahnhofstrasse and the centre
Walk to the lifts, the restaurants and the station. Busiest, and the easiest week if you have no shuttle.
Petit Village and Steinmatte
Five minutes from the Sunnegga funicular, quieter evenings, good value for the walking distance.
Findeln and the hillside
Hamlet chalets above the tree line reached by snowcat or ski — extraordinary, and impractical for a group with small children.
- Christmas, New Year and February half-term are booked nine to twelve months ahead.
- Ask how the chalet handles the Täsch transfer and luggage — this is where car-free weeks go wrong.
- Confirm whether the week is catered or self-catered and what staffing is included where offered.
- Late March and April still ski well here; the glacier holds snow when France is closing.
- Rail from Geneva or Zurich is about three and a half hours and more reliable than winter roads.
