What a Jackson Hole lodge costs

Jackson Hole is unusual among American ski destinations: the resort is small, the valley is a working ranching landscape, and Grand Teton National Park begins where the houses end. That mix gives it two full seasons — a serious ski winter and a park summer — with genuinely quiet shoulder months between them.

Bands below are indicative for four- to six-bedroom lodges and cabins, exclusive of staffing and lift passes.

Teton Village, Wilson or the town of Jackson

  • Teton Village

At the base of the tram, twelve miles from town. Ski-in lodges, the shortest mornings and the highest winter rates.

  • Wilson and the Snake River bench

Between the resort and town, with the valley's best views of the Tetons and a short drive either way. The local favourite.

  • Town of Jackson

Restaurants, galleries and the square. Best for a group that wants evenings out and does not mind the resort bus.

  • North of town, towards Grand Teton

Ranch properties on the park boundary: wildlife at dawn, dark skies and a longer drive to the lifts.

  • Winter driving means a four-wheel drive; Teton Pass closes in storms.
  • Ask whether the lodge is genuinely ski-in or a shuttle ride from the tram.
  • For wildlife, come in late May or September and plan dawn drives in Grand Teton.
  • Yellowstone's south entrance is an hour from the north end of the valley, and closes to cars in winter.
  • Festive and Presidents' weeks are placed nine to twelve months ahead.

Two seasons, two holidays

In winter this is a skier's valley: steep terrain from the tram, cat skiing and a short, cold, reliable season. In summer it becomes a park base — floating the Snake, hiking Cascade Canyon, riding at a ranch, and driving into Yellowstone for a day. Rates in July and August sit well below the festive ski weeks.

Staffing is usually housekeeping with a private chef available where the lodge offers it; ranch properties often include a caretaker.
