What a week at Careyes costs

Careyes is a single planned community on a wild coast: cliffside castles with open-air living rooms, smaller casitas around the bays, and bungalows nearer the beach clubs. Nothing is high-rise and nothing is chain — which is the point, and the reason a week here is booked long ahead.

Bands below are indicative and exclude staffing, which most houses provide where offered.

Which house to take

  • Cliffside castles

Open-sided living rooms above the Pacific, infinity pools cut into rock, staffing where offered. The reason people come here.

  • Casitas around Playa Rosa

Smaller and closer to the beach club and the water; the easiest option for four to six people.

  • Bungalows and the Tigre Del Mar side

Set back in the jungle, quieter and better value, a short drive or walk from the bays.

  • Cuixmala, next door

The neighbouring estate on the same coast, with its own beaches and a different booking pattern.

  • Careyes is remote: the nearest hospital and supermarket are an hour away, so plan provisions with the house.
  • Christmas, New Year and Easter are booked a year ahead, and the polo and festival weeks fill fast.
  • Manzanillo is the shorter transfer at about an hour and fifteen minutes; Puerto Vallarta is two and a half hours of good road.
  • Open-air houses mean insects and humidity — ask what is screened before booking with young children.
  • The Pacific here has surf; the bays at Playa Rosa and Careyitos are the swimmable ones.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a villa in Careyes cost per week?
Indicatively USD 8,000 to 34,000 for a casita or six-bedroom villa from January to March, and USD 14,000 to 60,000 over Christmas and New Year. Cliffside castles run USD 40,000 to USD 160,000 a week.
How do you get to Careyes?
Fly to Manzanillo, about an hour and fifteen minutes by road, or Puerto Vallarta, about two and a half hours down the coast highway.
When is the best time to visit Careyes?
November to April, when the coast is dry and the community is busy. Much of Careyes closes through September and October in the rainy season.
Can you swim at Careyes?
In the sheltered bays — Playa Rosa and Careyitos — yes. The open Pacific stretches have surf and current, so the bay you are above matters.
