How to use the calendar

  • February to April if the week is about water clarity

Flat sea, the best visibility of the year and reliable sun — and the rates that go with all three.

  • June to September if the week is about the programme

Rain arrives in bursts, not days. You get the same house for roughly half, plus manta and whale-shark season in Baa.

  • Watch the transfer clock, not just the month

Seaplanes fly in daylight only year-round. A late inbound flight costs a Malé night in any season.

  • Christmas is a twelve-month booking

The last two weeks of December sell out a year ahead at the top of the rate card, with long minimum stays.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month to visit the Maldives?
February. The northeast monsoon is settled, the sea is flat, visibility is at its best for diving and snorkelling, and the sun is reliable. It is also one of the most expensive months, along with January, March and the Christmas fortnight.
When is the cheapest time for a Maldives retreat?
June to September. The southwest monsoon brings wind and short heavy showers rather than all-day rain, and the same residence can cost roughly half its February rate.
When is manta season in the Maldives?
Roughly June to October in Baa Atoll, when plankton gathers at Hanifaru Bay and mantas and whale sharks aggregate. It coincides with the wetter, cheaper half of the year.
Does it rain all day in the Maldives green season?
Rarely. Green-season rain usually comes as heavy bursts of an hour or two with sun either side, though wind and choppier water are more consistent than the rain itself.
How far ahead should I book a Maldives wellness stay?
Six to nine months for high season, and a full twelve for Christmas and New Year, when the best residences sell out with long minimum stays before they are ever advertised.
