Which Airport for Which Alps Resort

Geneva dominates the Alps flight search, but it is not always the right airport. For Megeve, Chamonix and Morzine it is — seventy-five to ninety minutes. For Courchevel, Meribel and Val d'Isere, Chambery is closer by road and far calmer, though its winter schedule is thin and weather-prone. Lyon is the reliable understudy: two and a half hours to the Three Valleys on a motorway, with full-size aircraft and de-icing that works.

The train deserves consideration. Eurostar and TGV services reach Moutiers, Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Aime-la-Plagne, putting the Three Valleys, Paradiski and the Espace Killy within a half-hour funicular or taxi ride of the platform. An overnight or Saturday-morning train avoids the changeover-day road entirely, which on peak Saturdays is the difference between skiing after lunch and queuing until dark.

Whichever route you take, the last hour matters more than the flight. Book the transfer when you book the chalet, ask for a driver who knows the resort, and on a Saturday, build the Moutiers climb into the plan rather than being surprised by it.
